Cast parts

The Silbitz Group has been producing cast parts of high-quality materials for more than 125 years. In a weight range of 10 kilos to 50 tons, steel and iron cast parts are produced according to the customers’ requirements.

Cast parts as cornerstones of technical progress

The central basis for every technical progress in all industrial sectors have always been the diverse cast parts of the base material iron. It was only the high efficient foundry technology, which paved the way to an efficient mass production of components of all types. Particularly important in this connection is also the efficient and improved production process, where it is now possible to produce more and more precise and filigree cast parts for machinery and vehicles. By economizing on expensive machining work, steel and iron cast parts constitute the pre-condition for an efficient production, even in the most modern CNC-cutting technology. Complex and large housings and stands give a wide field for machines of all kinds, which leads to more favorable alternatives in the sector of individual constructions.

From the very beginning in 1896, the Silbitz Group has been producing cast parts of most diverse ferrous alloys. Through an extensive restructuring, due to intensive research and investments in most modern casting technologies, the company was able to continuously present improved qualities and innovative new developments, which correlated with more efficient production technologies. Instead of the coke-heated cupola furnaces, there are now state-of-the-art electric-arc furnaces, that allowed an extension of the product range for the production of steel and stainless steel cast parts in diverse quality levels. However, cast parts of grey cast iron or spheroidal graphite iron are still in demand and represent, under the collective term cast iron and with improved qualities, the main material in the iron foundry sector.

Simulation of the casting process

In order to be able to exactly predict the mould filling process, the solidification and the cooling phase, the casting process of cast parts is simulated previously. This leads to a quantitative forecast, which mechanical characteristics, thermal pressures and distortions the cast parts will have.

Integration into the life cycle of the cast part

A deep and comprehensive simulation of the cast parts’ life cycle automatically increases the technical and therefore also the economic benefits. Generally, this life cycle involves the whole company, whereby a cast process simulation is not only integrated into the processes of the Silbitz Group, but also into those of the cast part construction and of the contracting customer.
